Why Do We Like To Drink Wine With Our Mates?

We’ve all had those Thursdays.  You slump in the couch when you get back home from work.  It’s been a shocker of a week, and you’ve still got one day to go.  Well Friday’s Friday isn’t it?!  Time to crack open a bottle of wine and vege infront of the tele.  But are you really enjoying that?

For me, wine is all about sharing a bottle out with mates.  All this stuff in the press about people nailing a bottle to themselves at night regularly?  75cl is not meant to be drunk at once by one person!  It’s a perfect size for two of you to have a couple of glasses.  If there’s four of you?  Crack open a magnum!  Whatever you do, do it together.

Wine’s a sociable drink.  A dinner table is naked without it.  A BBQ is just a sausage fest.  A cheeky after work bevvy is just a frustration vent.  The flavonoids in wine lift the spirits.  It gets you talking, gets you thinking, and gets you in the mood.

At the risk of sounding like a tool, wine is that perfect mix of history, geography, science, and art.  You pick yourself one that you like and enjoy it that way.  It evokes talk.  About the wine or the food.  Or the company.  Or anything else that pops into your head.

You’re pouring eachother’s drinks.  It’s the nod, the wink, the “say when” about it all.  You’re looking after your mates and they’re looking after you.  Just don’t drip too much, and make sure you’re good at dividing!

And the best thing about drinking wine together is that there’s always someone else who’s turn it is to stand up and go and get another bottle!

Cheers

Mike
