Why Monfaucon’s 2017 Blend Is A Shining Light Of A Difficult Vintage

We all heard the shocking stories for 2017 didn’t we?  Warm start to spring followed by a sharp frosty cold snap left grape flowers destroyed, and yields at record low levels.  Follow that with general apathy in the Primeurs market this April/May, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that 2017 was one to forget for Bordeaux vignerons.  Well, not everyone!

Friend to the firm, and all round good egg, Dawn Jones-Cooper has just released her 2017 Nobody’s Perfect Blend from her Semillon and Muscadelle vines.

As usual, the wine ticks all the boxes of being both organic and vegan, and following the biodynamic principles that Dawn holds very close to the heart of what she’s trying to achieve with the estate.  So much so that it’s left her outside the AOC rules of Entre Deux Mers, leaving her wines as “basic” Vin De France.  “Well,” as she points out, “nobody’s perfect!”

Full of peaches, apricots, and pineapples, with white blossom floral notes, grapefruit and lemon acidity, gravelly minerality, and Dawn’s signature super long finish, this is a triumph of 2017.

Now being championed by the likes of the superstar palate of Anne McHale MW and swanky Mayfair wine club 67 Pall Mall, here’s your chance to see what all the fuss is about, as it’s available in limited quatities on the 20h33 UK site until the end of 2018.

Head over to www.20h33.co.ukto check it out for yourself.
